Bodysuit Hack – Turn it around!

img_2069(Bodysuit – Madewell they no longer carry this one but here are some others, Jeans – American Eagle, Bag – gift from my mom that she got in Italy at a market, Necklace – gift from my brother/sister in law from a fair trade market in Sonoma, Sunglasses – Forever21)

When bodysuits started to become a trend, I loved how flattering they were on people and I really wanted to try them out.  However, I could never find one that looked like it would fit well or wasn’t too skimpy for my body type.  I ended up buying this one here in this post from Madewell one day without trying it on with the thought process that since it was long sleeved, how could it go wrong?  Well the V-Neck cut of it was just too deep for my chest and it’s been sitting in my closet for months.  One day my friend and co-worker, Mallory, walked into the office with this adorable back swooped body suit that I had to ask about.  Turns out, she had a similar problem as myself and was crafty enough to figure out that a good way to still wear the bodysuit was simply to turn it around.  I went from never wearing my body suit to it being one of my favorite tops thanks to this hack!

img_2076I love how classy the high neck looks on the body suit now.  Someone even complimented it the other day and said it looked like an Audrey Hepburn look the other day.  I was so flattered!

img_2091A friend passed down these Madewell booties to me and they are so comfortable, I wear them all the time.  Also, props for all the clothing swaps I’ve had with my friends and family.  I truly get such great use out of hand me downs.

img_2072When in doubt, flip it around!  Thanks Mallory for your creativity and outfit hacking!

Happy 4th of July everyone – enjoy the holiday week.

Cable Knit Spring.

{hat – Otovalo Market in Ecuador, sweater – Ann Taylor, similar here, Denim – Madewell, Shoes – Banana Republic similar here, Bag – Marc Jacobs from Nordstrom Rack similar here}

The sun is starting to come out but there is still a chill in the air.  Since I am always cold, I like to be bundled up while embracing the Spring days to come.  The is my go to outfit at the moment.  What’s yours?

IMG_5442
I love this hat that I got on vacation in Ecuador last summer.

IMG_5441
It’s got a great detailed band.

IMG_5440_2Cable knit keeps me just warm enough.

You never know what you are going to find at the Nordstrom Rack, like this purse!  I also got these flats on super clearance at Banana Republic for under $10.  What a steal!

IMG_5437I’m pretty simple when it comes to dress so this is the perfect outfit for me when the days are chilly but the sun is shining.

Olive Bumble Bees.

DSC_0487I found this great olive colored utility jacket at Zara a couple of weeks ago. Surprisingly, it goes with just about every color I have in my closet and is a great piece to pair with dresses and shirts alike. The snaps are what caught my eye, I found them unusual and I am trying to acquire pieces that don’t look anything like what I already have (which is a lot harder than it sounds).

DSC_0496(This would actually be an easy DIY. If you head to your local fabric store they have great appliques that you can sew on to any piece of clothing. This bee has some beading detail that could also be simple to replicate)

I feel like this shirt is a lot of fun and exemplifies my personality well. I love bees (well, not real bees just bees for fashion purposes) and all things related to honey so I knew I had to have this top!

I Love Pom Poms.

DSC_0039_2My favorite trend of the year is easily return of the pom pom. I found this great store called Dotti in Queenstown and knew this is what I wanted to scoop up!

DSC_0040_2(I want to find a pom pom maker and add them to pillows and even simple tees)

I am looking forward to finding more pieces with subtle pom poms. I think it’s a fun way to add some flare to basic pieces.

Grey Patterns.

IMG_4970Do you ever look at articles of clothing and say those aren’t supposed to go together but they do so well?  I’m not sure if I ever get it right but from time to time when I throw two completely different patterns together, they actually work.  I’m loving large cozy socks and thick knits to keep me warm.

(Steve Madden have great boots for all occasions.  These cut-out heeled boots are on my wish list!  The socks are thick thigh highs from Forever21 scrunched down.)

I say, if you feel good in it then wear it.  Whatever it may be, including mis-matching prints 🙂

Roar.

IMG_3823OK, so as much as I love Katy Perry’s new track “Roar,” I did not love her VMA performance.  However, it seems like the track is making a pretty powerful statement.  Have you noticed how the new fashion trend seems to be kitten/lion/tiger prints?!  I paired this Roar-iffic large necklace with a very casual Tee and some shorts.  After all, one statement piece says enough.

Beaded Beauty.

Liv Style

Our friend Liv kept it classic with a gorgeous beaded skirt from Anthropologie during our LA trip! She kept it soft on the top and colorful on the bottom, let’s take a look at how she wore this amazing piece!

Liv Style(The neutral sweater allows the bright skirt to pop)

Liv Style(Each section of the skirt has a different beaded pattern)

Liv Style(Aviators and flip flops complete the California look)

Liv’s style is always a mix of funky and classic, it’s hard for most people to pull off but she makes it look easy! The trick is when you have a bold piece, wear something neutral to let it shine!

LA Style.

Today we are featuring our friend Meris who always has amazing style! LA in the summer brings the heat and Meris put together a great outfit full of layers!

Homemade French Crepes.

This weekend I made one of the most delicious and easiest recipes for breakfast: French Crepes! Honestly, you probably have most of the ingredients in your pantry already so you should give it a try. And if I can do it, so can you!

20130714-160853.jpg

(You will need: 1 cup of flour, 2 eggs, 2 tablespoons of melted butter, a half cup of milk, and a pinch of salt. The filling can consist of your favorite fruits and jams or my favorite, Nutella!)

20130714-160904.jpg

(In a large bowl, whisk the flour and eggs together)

20130714-160915.jpg

(Slowly whisk in the milk, a half cup of water, salt, and melted butter until you get a smooth consistency)

20130714-160929.jpg

(Pour the batter in a lightly buttered pan over medium high heat in quarter cup increments. The thinner the pour, the better)

20130714-160940.jpg

(After 2 minutes flip over your crepe and cook for another 30 seconds)

20130714-160950.jpg

(Add Nutella or jam, and fruit of your choice)

20130714-160957.jpg

(Fold in half and serve when warm)

You can also get creative for breakfast and scramble eggs with cheese and serve in your crepe. For dinner, I have made Pesto Parmesan Chicken crepes. It’s one of the simplest things to cook and it always impresses people because it looks fancier than it is. These crepes take literally 2 minutes and 30 seconds to cook, it doesn’t get better than that!
