Bottlerock Y’all.

So, a pair of VIP tickets to Bottlerock landed in my lap this past Thursday and while I am not a huge fan of festivals, I decided to go because I was going to be in Napa anyway! Nick and I only went on Saturday and here is my official review of the first of what I’m sure will be an annual event.

Crowd(The crowds were there, that’s for sure)

It was a very warm 85 degrees in Napa which was nice because there was a great breeze. On the other hand, it was super dirty and the Expo grounds had hay everywhere which was not great for people with allergies. Other than that, the grounds were an okay location for this event.

Janes(We watched the hysterical Jane’s Addiction play. They were great, I was super impressed and stoked that I got a chance to check them out)

Edward Sharpe(We checked out a little bit of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes. They were pretty good but I think the craziest part was finding out that Dwight’s gf from “The Office” is in the band!)

Kings of Leon(Kings of Leon were amazing! I have never been able to see them before and I thought they sounded great! I am so glad they are back together!)

Adam(Our friend Adam was taking advantage of the wine portion of the festival!)

Chelsea and Nick(Nick and I taking a seat in between bands)

Overall, as much as I enjoyed seeing Kings of Leon, I would not recommend this festival (unless you get free tickets, then go). It’s overpriced for what it is and there are so many other festivals in the area that put this one to shame. It’s pretty unorganized and the stage areas are way too small for how large some of the acts are (ie Edward Sharpe). Maybe it’s because it was it’s first year but I thought security was super intense and over the top- it’s a Napa Valley festival for crying out loud. They were more concerned about people smuggling in logs of salami than weapons.  Also, they made you throw out your wine when you wanted to go into the comedy venue- only to be selling more wine inside, shady. But Kings of Leon were amazing and I am glad we went and experienced it!

Portugal. The Man

Portugal. The Man has been one of my favorite bands for the past five years. And since moving back home to San Francisco two and a half years ago I have been able to see them play live three times. Each time better than the last and this past Friday’s show at the Independent was no exception. This show had these floating orbs that changed colors, which added a little flare I have never seen before. Check out the pics.

(Once the orbs changed to a solid color, so did the entire room)20130415-105956.jpg

(The Independent is a tiny venue, holding about 400 people. It feels like you are part of the band)

(If he took another step, he’d be in the crowd)

Check out a little snippet of the show. If you haven’t heard of them yet, you soon will. Their new album is due out June 4 and is produced by Danger Mouse.

The Neighbourhood Coachella Spotlight

With Coachella this weekend, we have had a ton of cool artists come through our building at work. The Neighbourhood stopped by yesterday and played a few songs for us and they sounded great!

(Definitely have the L.A. vibe to them)

(He has quite the voice)

(They played acoustic which was a rare treat)

I definitely recommend this band, if you get a chance to see them. Their songs are great and their new album is hitting itunes soon so in the meantime, check “Female Robbery” out!

Coachella Spotlight Artist to Watch: Alt-J

IMG_8649If you like music from bands like Mumford and Sons (who actually covered the Alt-J song ‘Tessellate’ in BBC studio session) and the Lumineers mixed with powerhouse vocals, you’ve found your match in Alt-J.  I can’t say enough great things about this band.  They are sky rocketing and rightfully so.  I was introduced to their music by a friend a while back and have caught multiple shows by them.  Each time, they sound flawless.  We were so excited when our work announced that they’d be bringing two of the band members in to perform an acoustic set, we were ecstatic.  They are in CA touring inbetween and around Coachella which they will be performing at both weekends.  If you are going to either weekend, do not miss this band.

Alt-J is exploding with talent.  Check them out and try to catch them at a smaller venue before they are selling out arenas 😉

Coachella Wants and Wishes

Coachella 2012With the massive music lovers festival right around the corner (literally), I’ve began to pack.  Packing is so much fun for Coachella because despite my experience with the extremely cold weather last year (we deemed it Snowchella), it’s typically the first taste of real summer.  Our whole group of friends rallies together to camp out away from the festival on an amazing piece of property where there are horses, a pool, and endless good times.  During my packing process, I’ve come across many items that are totally justifiable to buy and bring and also many that are a more of a want (the things you want to buy but can’t justify when you know Coachella may be the only place you get to rock the piece).

BP Sunglasses(WANT: BP sunglasses are my jam!  They are always under $15 and adorable.  Not to mention you don’t feel bad if they get lost or broken)

white scalloped swim suit(WISH:  These amazing scalloped swimsuits designed by Stone Cold Fox are definitely on my wish list)

cheetah print vans(WANT: These cheetah print vans are wild and cute)

Spell Byron Bay Skirt(WISH: Beautiful maxi skirts/dresses to wear to stay cool and enjoy the festival.  This one is by Spell Designs)

Anyone else going to Coachella this year?!  What musicians are you looking forward to seeing?

“This Love’s For Gentlemen Only”

photo 1When I heard one of my favorite bands was going to be coming to San Francisco and playing one of the smaller venues in town, I think I stopped breathing for a second.  I knew I needed a ticket some how, some way.  Problem is, the show sold out in 10 seconds!  This show was not to be missed.  Long story short, a very good friend of ours was looking out for my die-hard, Phoenix-loving, heart and found me a ticket to buy last minute.  I will forever be grateful to him for the ticket.  The show ironically fell on April 1st (I thought someone was punk-ing me at first) but this show was no joke.  These parisian musicians played a 90 minute set including new tracks, Wolfgang Amadeus tracks, and even a few tracks from It’s Never Been Like That.  Thomas Mars, the front man, took his time to connect with all concert goers and even walked through the crowd during the end of their set to get up close and personal with the back of the room.  I had my phone to snap a few photos once I could snap out of my mega-crush on these talented guys.

photo 2(Opening with their brand new single “Entertainment,” Mars wasn’t scared to get up close and personal)

photo 5(During the instrumentals for Love Like a Sunset Part I and II, Mars laid on the ground and let the rest of the band carry everyone away with the beautifully trance provoking tunes)

photo 4(For the beginning of the encore, Mars came out with only one guitarist and covered Air’s “Playground Love” while sitting right on the edge of the stage in the crowd.  It was incredible)

photo 3When it all sadly had to come to an end, the entire band joined Mars back on stage only to perform my most cherished Phoenix song… Rome!!!  I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.  This band has a way of combining sounds and lyrics in such a fun and talented way.  I’m in awe that I was able to see such a phenomenal band, in such an intimate setting.  I’ll be seeing them again in less than two weeks at Coachella, however that time I’ll be joined by 80,000 others.  With major rock star status, I feel so grateful that I was able to get a ticket to this show and gaze at them while they crooned the crowd.

Were any of your there, too?

Feature Artist: Delta Rae.

My friend Liz is in this amazing band, Delta Rae. And I have been meaning to write about them for a while because while their sound it kind of folky, it is super unique and they are one of my favorite bands to see live. Today was the first time that I saw their video for one of my favorite songs called “If I Loved You”. I love it and to make it even better Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac helped out with some guitar elements.

delta rae(You can see Britt and I watching the band play at Cafe du Nord in the Castro about a year ago)

They have been experiencing some major success like performing on Jay Leno, Conan, and being a featured artist on VH1. I just have to share this video with you. Please take a few minutes to watch it, I know you will love it too!

If There’s A Future, We Want It.

IFL and Paramore

Yesterday we got the chance to meet Paramore and we had a blast. They were a lot of fun and super nice! We were reminded of so many reasons why we love Hayley Williams! With their fourth album coming up this April, we thought we’d break down our favorite looks of Haley’s.

Hayley-Williams Natural(This is a super natural look that highlights her beautiful features)

hayley_williams(Hot pink lipstick adds some color to her porcelain skin)

Hayley Williams(Her lashes add some glam to her signature red hair)

Hayley Nylon(Don’t forget to catch Hayley on the cover of our favorite magazine, Nylon this June/July!)

( We love this song that will be the next single on the upcoming album “Still Into You”)

She’s a breath of fresh air and ultra talented. It’s nice to reminded that you can have it all!

I Was A Lonely Soul But That’s The Old Me.

I can’t deny that ever since I met Chelsea, the most interesting events have happened to us.  One day I got a call from a friend asking if we would be interested in being in a music video being filmed in the bay area.  Of course we said yes!  We LOVE music and producing and/or being a part of creative content (hence the blog).  We didn’t know many details about it including who or what the video was even for but sent our info to the right place and BOOM!  We started receiving emails about the “secret” locations and what our wardrobe was supposed to look like.  The most fun we had though was trying to nail down the outfits.  This was in our email about what to try to dress as:

They also sent this photo to try to show us what the wardrobe guidelines were supposed to turn out like:

We were a little confused but excited by the challenge!  So we dressed up and headed to set.  Although, getting to set was also extremely fun.  We were given a secret location and a map and told to show up around midnight.

Screen Shot 2013-02-24 at 10.38.27 AM

This place was awesome.  The views of San Francisco were beautiful and it was like driving through a forest.  Once we got to the location was the best part.  My friend who works on music video concepts for a label took us around and introduced us to all the people that make these things happen.  We ended up at wardrobe where they had racks and racks of clothing for the shoot.  It was heaven.  Then we got in line with the other people there for wardrobe.  It seems we were the only ones who took the wardrobe guidelines to heart and tried to dress up.  They were dressing everyone else and changing their outfits. Finally, we got to the stylist where they looked us up and down and claimed – great!  We had nailed the look.  And here were our outfits, or at least mine.  Chelsea’s will be up tomorrow so make sure to check back!

IMG_7193(For the actual shoot we disheveled our hair and put twigs in it, they really liked that touch)

IMG_0984This was actually us AFTER we got home from the shoot.  So much fun to be around all of the hustle and bustle.  We found out once we started getting emails that the shoot was for One Republic’s new song and you know, the song hadn’t been released yet so we had no idea what it was.  It’s one of both of our favorites now.  We had both had a crazy last year and now are so much better for it which I feel is the point of the song.  Check back tomorrow for Chelsea’s wardrobe ace and a link to the video!

Not So Silent Night Pre-Party

Well the most wonderful time of the musical year came and went this past weekend.  It was awesome to have three jammed pack nights of top billboard artist musical performances.  The first night (Not So Silent Night Pre-Show) was on Thursday night at the Mezzanine in downtown San Francisco.  Walk the Moon, Atlas Genius, and Foster the People were the bands to kick off the three nights of musical bliss.  Here are some photos and you can see more on  Were any of you there?

IMG_5704(Second up: Walk to Moon.  This band absolutely killed it.  Their set was flawless and seemed to get better from the last time I saw them)

IMG_5746(The crowd was jam packed and loving every minute)

Mark Foster from Foster the People continued on into the late night with a dj set.  I went home to catch some sleep before another big two days of shows.  This was an awesome opener to two more awesome days of shows.  Sometimes our work does not suck.  Did any of you make it to Not So Silent Night this weekend??
