Body Chain.

IMG_0786

I got this body chain in a sample bag of jewelry and always thought it was cool but didn’t know exactly how it was supposed to be worn without looking too cheesy.  I layered it over a simple black dress and under a chunky sweater for an added touch.  It almost looks like it is part of the dress and now I love it!

I love the detailing of the little arrows.

This could be done with a simple tank, jeans/leggings, and a chunky sweater as well!

High Fashion Meets Everyday Fashion.

I work with some amazingly inspiring people and the other day while rocking these earrings, one of them asked me if I had seen Pippa McManus’s fashion illustrations recently.  He showed me some of the drawings and how large earrings are going to be big in upcoming runway shows.  I love the idea of very simple outfits with one bold piece and if the earring isn’t too heavy, I’m in FULL suppot of rocking the bling in jewelry form.  Check out some of this amazing artists images below.

On Me, On You.

I bought this headband while at Coachella from a woman who makes these awesome reversible headbands by hand.  I love to support people who create their own jewelry, clothes, paintings, etc.  I think it’s so awesome to see people working hard at something they love.  Nonetheless, I bought this headband on the spot and I couldn’t be more happy with it.  In our newest series “On Me, On You”, we show how the same piece of jewelry or clothing can look great in different ways on different people.

I like to rock the jeweled side because it can make a t-shirt just that much more fancy.

The feather side is just as pretty!  We both chose the side that one might think would blend in with our hair tones a bit more but the more subtle the better (at least we prefer!).

These earthy tones really look beautiful with Chelsea’s brunette locks.

The feather tails at the end are the perfect dangles.

This headband is also great because you can tie it to the size you’d like for wherever you’d like to place the headband.  Making this easy to share 🙂  DIY coming soon!

On Me, On You.

IFL

Being besties, we share pretty much our entire closets.  We started this post because not everything fits our bodies the same but we usually interpret pieces of clothing in slightly different ways.  Here’s a series where we can interpret pieces in the same manner, jewelry!

We love this chunky, tribal piece!

IMG_8396Long and layered is the way to go with these two!

IMG_8393These are great against a simple tank top.  They are fun, colorful, and add detail to something as simple as a black tank top.

SF Style: Meet the Designer!

K Michael

She’s a gorgeous designer from the bay area and has created her own fashion business from scratch.  Who wouldn’t want a peek inside Kristen Michael’s life?!  When not fully emersed in her work as a special education teacher, she makes time to channel her creativity.  We love her work and had a chance to catch up with her to chat about K Michael Style.

1) When did you start designing?
I’ve always had my hands in projects since I was young, but I really started experimenting more after graduating college.  I was making reconstructed clothing from vintage pieces, which soon morphed to making jewelry and scarves.

2) What are your favorite fashion concepts? (90’s grunge, bohemian, etc)
I would have to say a blend of bohemian & edgy.
3) What inspires you outside of fashion?
People who love what they do and those that are happy with very little is something that truly inspires me.
4) What’s the best advice you’ve received about starting your own fashion business?
Be more confident in your product and stop being so shy!  (Marketing is not my strong suit)

5) What’s the most challenging thing about having your own business?
Time.  I am a full time special ed teacher so finding time is my biggest challenge currently.  I always think if I had more time I could do this and that….my to-do list for K.Michael is constantly growing.

6) How would you describe your own style?
I love street style.  Mixing hard and soft, for example ripped jeans with a silk printed blouse and boots, accessorized w/ long layered delicate necklaces and a couple rings (I love rings).

7) Who’s your dream client?
Solange and Nicole Richie

8) Your work seems to be geometric, do you enjoy architecture as well?
It may sound contrary but nature and big cities are two environments that feed my creativity.

9) What’s a great website you visit daily/weekly?
I used to visit multiple fashion blogs but my visits have turned to pinterest, it’s a one stop shop when you don’t have hours to scour the internet.

10) When is your next trunk show/where can we get your jewelry?
Next show:
Holiday in the Vineyards in Livermore @ Charles R. Vineyards
Or host your own trunk show with your freinds or co-workers!
To set one up email me at kmichael002@yahoo.com
instagram @kmichaelstyle and facebook.com/kmichaelstyle for shows, events and new designs!
